What Malaysian Motorsport Scene?

Admittedly, the title do not exactly stir up images of racing legends that have once graced the top of the world's premier podiums, but believe it or not, Malaysian motorsports have actually quite a rich history dating back into the early 1900s.

Organised racing in Malaysia started mostly in the southern part of the country as British racing enthusiasts started using the coastal town of Johor Bahru near Singapore as their weekend street circuit. My grandma could recall when she was young of many accidents where the driver would crash into the Straits of Johor as they race down the hill along the Seren Hill Palace.

What started mostly as a weekend hobby quickly bloomed into a full fledged racing calendar and spread like wildfire northward to KL, Ipoh and Penang. Streets would often be sectioned off during the weekend to make way for exciting hi-noon showdowns.
